This time at CapCHI, the Digital Access Agile Team from Library and Archives Canada (LAC) will introduce us to their newly developed census access tool Census Search. Census Search unifies all 17 separate historical Census databases currently available on the LAC website and makes them accessible to the public via one searchable interface. Our guests will discuss the many challenges the team has faced during the development and design process of Census Search’s interface and database and share the many valuable insights they uncovered along the way.

Julia Barkhouse is a Collections Data Analyst on the Digital Access Agile Team at Library and Archives Canada. She has worked as a database superuser and data transformation expert in various positions at LAC over the past 13 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Bishop’s University (2006) and a Masters in Library and Information Studies (majors in Archival Science) from McGill (2008).

Robyn Feres-Cameron is a Senior User Experience Designer on LAC’s Digital Access Product Team. Robyn is an experienced UX researcher and designer, a staunch advocate for all people who access LAC’s holdings and applies industry leading techniques to ensure that everyone can participate in the ongoing stories of Canada’s documentary heritage. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University in History, a Master of Arts from the University of Toronto in History, and a Master of Information from the University of Toronto in User Experience Design and Information Management.
